MACHINING THE GALLOWAY FLYWHEELS

This view shows a flywheel casting being setup in the 4 jaw chuck.  The casting was adjusted to  make the un-machined portion at the outer end of the spokes run as true as possible. A pointer was used to help determine run-out.

This picture shows the machining done in the first chucking.  Material was left to allow for a final truing cut.  The hub has been drilled and reamed to fit the crankshaft.
The flywheel has been reversed in the chuck, recentered,  and the opposide side machined.  Again, material was left for the finishing cuts.
This arbor was machined for mounting the flywheels for the finishing cuts.  The arbor was not removed from the chuck until flywheel machining was finished. The nut and spacer clamp the flywheel against the shoulder on the arbor.  A center hole was drilled into the arbor to allow tailstock support.
A flywheel is shown mounted on the arbor for final truing cuts.  A tailstock live center was used to support the arbor.
