MACHINING THE GALLOWAY ENGINE FRAME

This view shows the engine base mounted in the fixture used to surface the underside of the engine base.  The fixture was welded up from 3 inch channel iron, bolted to the mill table, and the vertical supports were milled to give a level mounting surface.

A piece of bar with a flat machined on one side was laid into the base to provide a bearing piece for the hold down bar shown in the next photo.  (Photos taken after the base was machined)
This photo shows the hold down bar in place.
An aluminum block was trued up and mounted to a Suburban Cube.  The aluminum block was then drilled and tapped to accept mounting screws for the engine base.  Once on the cube, the engine base was not removed until all machining was complete.  The Suburban Cube helps maintain alignment between various machined features and centerlines.
